Copilot in Teams will not recap a meeting: four causes

Symptoms

• The Recap tab is empty after the meeting
• Copilot says the transcript is unavailable
• The Copilot button is inactive during the meeting

Causes and fixes

1. Transcription was not turned on

What to do: Turn on transcription at the start of the meeting or set it to start automatically in meeting options

2. The meeting started as a quick call from a chat

What to do: Schedule the meeting from the calendar to get a recap; quick calls are processed only partially

3. You have no Microsoft 365 Copilot license, or the organizer is from another company

What to do: Check the license with the admin; in external meetings access depends on the organizing company's policies

4. The admin disabled Copilot for meetings without a recording

What to do: Ask the admin to check the Copilot policy in the Teams admin center
