Perplexity not working: four causes and what to do

Causes and fixes

1. An outage on the service's side

What to do: Check status.perplexity.com and wait; for urgent research use Gemini with Deep Research

2. A VPN or corporate network blocks the perplexity.ai and pplx.ai domains

What to do: Turn off the VPN or ask the admin to allow the domains

3. A browser extension breaks the page

What to do: Open it in an incognito window, then disable extensions one by one

4. Sign-in with a Google account that is blocked or set to another country

What to do: Sign in with an email code or another Google account
