Gemini in Google Sheets works in a side panel and sees the selected range. It writes formulas from a plain-language description, builds pivot tables and charts, finds rows with anomalies and explains them. The =AI() function fills a column with model answers for every row: expense classification, pulling amounts out of text, translating names. Data stays in your sheet and, in corporate Workspace, under company protection. Available in Google AI Pro and in Workspace plans with Gemini.

Pitfalls to watch at work
- The panel only reads a range with headers and one data type per column: merged cells, empty headers and dates stored as text give wrong answers
- Check a Gemini formula by hand on five rows before filling it down the whole column
- The =AI() function uses quota on every row and may return different answers for identical rows: freeze the result as values
- In a personal account, anonymize a sheet with employee or client personal data first
