Claude usage limits: why the quota runs out after ten messages and how to stretch it

Causes and fixes

1. The limit is measured by the amount of text the model rereads, not the number of messages: a long chat with a 100-page file spends quota on every message

What to do: Use a separate chat for each document and start a new one once the task is answered

2. Several files are uploaded into one chat, and every answer rereads them all

What to do: Put materials you need in many chats into a Project, where they are indexed more economically

3. The limit resets every five hours and your work fell at the end of the window

What to do: Put heavy tasks at the start of the window and move small questions to ChatGPT or Gemini

4. Extended reasoning uses quota several times faster

What to do: Turn it on only for complex tasks and off for emails and summaries
