DeepL translates text and whole Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF files while keeping the layout. For lawyers and managers the key features are a glossary that fixes the translation of terms (party names, job titles, products) and a formal or informal tone. DeepL Write checks and improves text in several languages. On paid plans files are deleted after translation and data stays out of training, which matters for contracts.

Pitfalls to watch at work
- On the free version texts may be stored to improve the service: translate contracts and correspondence with details only on a paid plan
- Legal terms are translated with a general dictionary: without a glossary "supplier" and "contractor" can swap midway through a document
- Scanned PDFs without a text layer are translated with OCR errors, so run OCR first
